Must have splurges in a high-end home remodel

So, you’ve got the budget and the time to really invest in a luxurious remodel and add dream home features. Now it’s time to prioritize just what changes you want or consider what additions are a must-have. While some changes are specific to your home and needs, others are sure to add luxury and value.

Maredi Home and Properties Inc. in Richmond is a high-end renovations company. They share some must-have splurges when it comes to a luxury remodel.

Luxurious master suite

A bedroom should be a space where you can relax, unwind, and recharge your mental and emotional needs. It’s also a space you want to enjoy spending time in, especially when there’s an ensuite in the layout. Add extra windows to create views and provide natural lighting. Or add design and function with a custom and spacious walk-in closet with all the bells and whistles. In the bathroom, go all the way with the spa-like theme and add natural stone floors, a walk-in shower with different heads or maybe some wall jets. A soaker tub is always welcome for those days where you need to unwind. Install a heated towel rack or a private nook for your water-efficient toilet. Make the most of the space and luxury additions that will make you feel pampered right at home.

Dress up the kids’ room

Luxury renovation typically focuses on the home as a whole, but don’t forget about family-specific upgrades. For the kids, build a built-in bunk with open space underneath. That “play zone” can change as they grow from a play area to the perfect space for a desk and computer. A window seat against the wall surrounded by floor-to-ceiling height bookshelves will help encourage imagination through reading as they grow. If the kid’s bedrooms are connected with a Jack and Jill bathroom, consider a long countertop with plenty of room to share the space. Help your kids conserve water with low-flow faucets, showerheads, and a dual-flush toilet. These additions will add value that can last for years.

First impression entryway

Looking to make a great first impression when people enter your home? A grand entrance is one of those must-have splurges in any luxury renovation. You can still create that “wow” reaction with some luxury designs, even without a central staircase. Add marble or natural stone to the floors and dress up the ceiling with crown mouldings. Work with the layout of your entrance, whether it’s a feature floor in a hallway, a striking piece of art on the wall, or a luxurious staircase. Focus on the architecture to pick that perfect focal point for a luxury entryway.

Getting your home’s HVAC system ready for winter

We all know that Canadian winters can be incredibly cold. When the cold comes, you want your home to be protected, and comfortable for you and your family. This means preparing your home’s HVAC system for the cold weather is very important this fall. From Valkin Heating and Air Conditioning in Calgary, here are some ways they can help you prepare your home’s HVAC system for winter.

Furnace repairs or replacements

The main element of your home’s heating system is the furnace. Furnaces have a lifespan of about 15 to 20 years. Once you’re nearing the end, it may be time for a furnace replacement. Some ways to know when your furnace may need replacing are if it’s growing quite old, there’s weird sounds coming from the unit, your house is heated unevenly, or your energy bills are creeping up. Sometimes, however, your unit may need a simple repair. If it’s a newer unit, and the cost of repairing is less than half of replacing it, it’s best to take the repair route. Have Valkin Heating check on your furnace this fall. They can make provide an inspection, tune-up, and make recommendations moving forward.

Duct cleaning

Overtime, ducts are prone to have some build-up of dust and debris from your home’s air. When this happens, ducts push these dust particles around your home. These allergens are blown into your indoor air and can cause a problem for people with asthma and allergies. Plus, dirty ducts can cause the system to run inefficiently. It’s a good idea to have your ducts regularly cleaned in order to keep your air flow strong, and the air itself cleaner.

Hot water tank check-ups

Another way to keep your home ready for winter is to ensure your hot water tank is functioning properly. If you notice a leak, defective connections, aren’t getting hot water, your hot water tank may need assistance. Call an HVAC company, like Valkin Heating and Air Conditioning. Not only will they be able to let you know if you need a repair or replacement, but they’ll be able to get the job done for you.

How an HVAC company can improve indoor air quality

Indoor air quality can have an impact on your health and your home. Components of your HVAC system can help you improve your indoor air quality, ensure proper ventilation and healthy humidity levels. Fagnan’s Furnace Service in Calgary offers a range of indoor air quality products that will keep you and your family comfortable, healthy, and safe.

Air purification

An air purifier can reduce dust, dander, bacteria, smoke, pollen, and even pathogens from the air inside your home. Fagnan’s offers the Infinity Air Purifier. This quality purifier works with your HVAC system and can trap up to 95% of these particles. Then it uses an electrical charge to kill or deactivate them.

Testing has shown that this air purifier effectively removes three pathogens from the air, including the common cold virus. You’ll feel the difference in the air inside of your home, especially if you have asthma or allergies.

Humidifiers

We have dry air in Alberta, especially in the winter. Keeping consistent humidity levels in your home has many benefits. You’ll be able to breathe easier and more comfortably, and it can relieve dry skin and hair. Humidifiers can reduce static electricity in the house and reduce energy costs overall. Plus, the humidity can help protect your wood furniture and flooring from cracking caused by dryness.

A new humidifier will work with your HVAC system to create and distribute steam throughout the home. Connect with them to learn about your best options.

Ventilation

Getting proper ventilation can be challenging in the winter since we often don’t keep windows open! Carrier® Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) can bring fresh air and cycle stale air out of your home year-round. ERVs use the outgoing air’s thermal energy to re-condition the air coming into the house. This is an efficient ventilation method. This system provides fresh air in the home without overworking the system.

Carbon monoxide detectors

You should test and replace your carbon monoxide detectors every few years. Carbon monoxide is highly toxic, causing illness and even death. Since it’s odourless, tasteless, and colourless, having a quality detector and an alarm is vital. The Carrier® CO alarm detects and records levels of CO with sophisticated sensor technology. It provides readings on a large digital display. When dangerous levels of CO are in the home, it sounds like an alarm so you and your family can exit the house immediately.

HVAC Companies in Calgary

Fagnan’s Furnace Service is a family-owned and operated business that has served Calgary and the area for 50 years. They offer a wide range of HVAC services, including furnace, air conditioner and ventilation services.
