Superior storage solutions with custom cabinets

As you set out to renovate or update your home, consider custom cabinetry to solve all your storage challenges. Custom cabinets are built with you and your lifestyle in mind. They meet your unique needs and bring a beautiful touch to your home’s interior design.

Crown Custom Cabinetry in Calgary is your local custom cabinetry expert. They share helpful information about custom cabinets and storage solutions for different areas throughout the house.

Custom cabinets for your kitchen

The kitchen is such an important room in the house- and it has a lot of high expectations to live up to! Your kitchen needs to be not only aesthetically impressive but also highly functional. The cabinets you choose are critical for establishing the visual feel of your kitchen and its usability. Therefore, it’s essential to choose wisely.

Custom cabinets are the best way to tick both of these boxes. This is because custom cabinets are intentionally designed to be beautiful with a wide variety of high-quality materials available. Furthermore, you have complete control over the storage, features, and layout. Mass-produced cabinets may not give you enough storage, use the available space to its full potential, or give you the right kind of storage. Find inspiration for your new kitchen cabinets!

Custom cabinets for your bathroom

The key to avoiding chaos in the bathroom is adequate storage. Otherwise, the sprawl of personal items, hair dryers, moisturizers, and the like can easily take over all available counter space. It’s also important to remember that bathrooms are usually smaller spaces. Assembly-made cabinets might not work with the available space and can easily make your bathroom feel cluttered. When you incorporate custom cabinets into your bathroom, you customize your storage solutions to suit your lifestyle. That’s why Crown Custom Cabinets offer different types of custom bathroom cabinets, such as linen towers, medicine cabinets, and furniture-style vanities.

Custom cabinets for your closet

Whether you have finally moved into a home with a walk-in closet or are looking for a built-in closet for your bedroom, custom-built cabinets can help you make the most of your space. Many walk-in closets are still on the small size, so intentional storage that meets your needs is crucial. Similarly, you don’t want your stand-alone, built-in closet to be so large that it takes up your whole bedroom. With custom cabinetry, you can maximize your organizational capabilities even in small spaces. In addition, an organized closet space for your things will help your room stay tidy and calm.

Custom cabinets for your laundry room

Laundry rooms quickly descend into mayhem, especially with large families. Custom cabinets can help. Shelving, cupboards, drawers, and counters bring organization to your typical, hectic laundry room. With cabinetry, for example, you can have somewhere to store your teen’s unfolded laundry, store the three different kinds of detergent, or hide your husband’s hockey gear.

Custom Cabinets in Calgary

Crown Custom Cabinetry is a family-owned and operated custom cabinet maker in Calgary. They have more than 30 years of experience providing homeowners beautiful, durable, and quality storage solutions. All of their products are designed and handcrafted for each client. None of their cabinets are mass-produced or created on an assembly line. Their customer service is always excellent, and they always complete projects on time and within budget.

That’s why your local electrical company likely provides a wide range of services to meet your every electrical need!

Regular inspections from a professional electrical company are the best way to prevent electrical fires, shocks, and other hazards. Problems can occur in the wiring between rooms or in individual plugs; however, your electrical panel can also malfunction. Consequently, it’s vital that your panel is checked and maintained. If you have a faulty panel, your electrician can recommend and install a panel upgrade. Conversely, if your existing panel can no longer meet your power needs, you need to upgrade to a newer and more robust model with more capacity.

2. Hot tub wiring

We all know that water and electricity do not mix. Therefore, you want to know that your new hot tub has been wired safely! Electrical work is always dangerous for inexperienced and untrained homeowners. Hot tub wiring is another example of electrical work you should never DIY. Your professional electrician has the necessary tools and knowledge to get your new hot tub working safely and efficiently.

3. Emergency lighting and alarms

Commercial spaces must have emergency lighting and alarm systems to protect employees and customers. Where to install a fence around your yard

Fences are a multifunctional addition to any front or backyard and ones that can easily be customized. Fences add excellent value, whether a privacy fence on a deck, an ornamental fence for a stylish look for your yard or for pool safety.

Go Fencing in Winnipeg is a professional vinyl fencing company. They share where you can add a fence throughout your yard for curb appeal, security, and function:

Yard perimeter fences

The type of fences you install around your front yard won’t necessarily be the same as your backyard. With the front yard more focused on curb appeal, a vinyl picket fence is a great choice. The height isn’t so tall that it will obstruct any views and the picket design adds charm and style. For the backyard, a taller, full-sized fence is the better choice. You want to have some privacy from the neighbours and create a clear property barrier for your yard space. Backyard fences are also a must if you have pets or children, and want to keep them safe.

Privacy deck fences

In addition to having a backyard fence, you can install a second fence for your deck. As a raised platform, your deck will likely be visible above your fence line. Adding a vinyl privacy fence can turn your deck into a private oasis. The fence style is taller and without gaps, so no views can get through. A semi-privacy fence is a great middle option for something less absolute in privacy. The smaller gaps in the fence will let a breeze through and let you still have a bit of a view.

Pool fences

If you have a pool in your backyard, it’s a good safety addition to having a fence around it. It’s also law if you live in Winnipeg to have a fence around any body of water with more than 24”. With a vinyl pool fence, you can add a deck design to dress up your pool. Keep in mind that backyard pools have size, fence requirements, and safety regulations. Before building anything alone, call in a professional fence contractor. They have the experience to build a quality fence and ensure it’s up to all regulations and bylaws.

Fence Contractors in Winnipeg

Go Fencing provides quality fencing that adds security, appeal, and long-lasting value to your home. As specialists in vinyl fencing, their team only provides the highest standard of products. Their top-notch installations, experience with regulations and bylaws and attention to detail guarantee peace of mind.

Small plumbing troubles that cost big in the long run

How much trouble can a small leak really be? Is a backed-up toilet more than just an inconvenience? As a homeowner, if you’ve ever asked yourself those questions, call a plumber. Just because the plumbing issue is minor doesn’t mean it’s not a sign of more significant trouble or potentially costly repairs.

Your Guy Plumbing & Drainage in Surrey is a professional, full-service plumbing company. They share what seemingly minor plumbing issues can actually cost big if left unrepaired:

Dripping faucets or running toilets

Does your faucet tend to drip now and then, or does your toilet run longer than it should after flushing? These may seem like minor inconveniences, but both are types of leaks that can quickly turn costly. A toilet chain caught under the flapper can waste an additional 3,000 litres per month. If it’s a leaky faucet, even a single drop per second can waste upwards of 2,500 litres a month. For a year, that’s a lot of wasted water and even higher monthly water bills. If you don’t know how to fix a leaky faucet, call Your Guy Plumbing & Drainage for the repair.

Backed up toilet

Does your toilet tend to back up frequently? If so, call in a plumber to help. It could be a sign that your septic tank needs to be emptied or that an encroaching tree root is affecting the sewer pipelines. Overfilling septic tanks can quickly lead to emergency emptying, which you want to avoid. Similarly, check outside for trees near your home. Removing a problem tree may be more cost-effective than paying for a burst pipeline if tree roots are the root issue.

Lowered water pressure

It may not be immediately noticeable, but even lowered water pressure signifies trouble. As mineral deposits build up in your water heater and lead to clogs, it causes that drop in water pressure. It could also be a sign in the case of an older water heater that rust is building up. To avoid the cost of a complete water heater replacement, call in a professional to have your water heater flushed out. That will clear away any buildup and help prolong the life of your plumbing.

Plumbers in Surrey

When you need fast, fair, and reliable service, Your Guy Plumbing and Drainage is there to help. They are a full-service plumbing company with a team of trained plumbing professionals. Whether you have a leaky tap or need a whole home re-piping, no job is too small or too big for their team.

Things to know about your paint supplies

When shopping for paint supplies, there are a lot of options out there. Understanding the meaning of paint bases, primers, and finishes, whether it’s an interior or exterior project, all matter when buying supplies.

Benjamin Moore Pinnacle South in Edmonton is a professional paint supply and materials company. They share what you need to know about your paint supplies before buying.

Paint bases

Paint comes in many forms, the most commonly known are water-based (aka “Latex” or “water-soluble”) and oil-based.  “water” based paints are easier to work with, and are designed to be low or 0 VOC, meaning that they cut down on the amount of chemicals being emitted by the paint as it is applied and dries.  It needs to be said that everything has VOCs in it, even water and the human body, but by reducing the amount of VOCs being emitted by your paint, you help ensure that you don’t add extra to your body chemistry.  These features are also copied in water-based primers, being easier to work with and dry quickly so that you can complete your project in a day.

Alkyd paints are no longer as prevalent as they used to be, what with water-based paints providing comparable performance and superior dry time.  But there are some areas where an alkyd coating is needed, like sealing in smoke and fire damage, strong odours embedded in a surface, or priming over certain exterior products.  If you are painting wood doors, it also helps to prime with oil to seal in the tannin stains and prevent them from bleeding through.  These stains won’t always be stopped by water-based products, it’s best to do it once and never have any problems.

Paint sheen

Once you have a base in mind for your project, there is a range of sheens to consider next. Sheen refers to how shiny the paint will look once it is dried. Exterior and interior paints have five types of sheens or finishes, but it only really matters for performance when discussing the interior. Flat or matte is the least amount of sheen, which is best for ceilings and ideal for walls when using premium products like Regal or Aura. Eggshell has a moderate sheen which helps with durability and washability, this is the most commonly used for walls throughout your house, whether it be a living room or a bathroom.  Satin (or pearl) is slightly glossier than eggshell and can be used on walls, but also on doors and trims.

Semi-gloss is the ideal choice of doors and trims, because it allows the colour on the walls to really be accepted, and provides a nice contrast to the comparatively flatter walls.

Find inspiration with these Benjamin Moore Paint Colours!

Interior vs exterior

Interior paints can be highly specialized, some are made to resist scuffs and marks and are easier to clean.  Some are extra thick and have fast recoat times to ensure better coverage and performance.  Exterior paints are differentiated by their solar fade resistance and coverage and durability, with sheen serving as more of an aesthetic choice rather than being hardier.  Also, certain exterior products are designed to go over numerous surfaces without a primer, such as stone, stucco, brick, and even some metals like aluminum.

Paint Supplies in Edmonton

Benjamin Moore Pinnacle South provides a full range of primers, interior and exterior paint, wood stains and specialty options. They also offer a wide range of supplies, including brushes, rollers, tape, and everything you need for a successful DIY paint job. In addition, their team can help you pick the perfect colour to ensure a quality paint job that lasts for years and looks great.

Top 3 home renovations to improve your home

A home renovation is a great way to improve your quality of life at home. If your rooms are not meeting your needs or bringing you joy, you may need a change. Basements, kitchens, and bathrooms are three of the most common renovations. Any one of these remodels has the potential to make your home a more functional and enjoyable place to be.

A & A Home Repair Services in Oshawa are a residential construction company specializing in home renovations.

1. Basement renovation

If your house doesn’t have enough space for your needs, you generally have three options: move, build a new home addition, or renovate your basement. Moving is a hassle and can mean leaving a neighbourhood you love. Home additions are expensive and may be impossible if you live on a small lot. On the other hand, basement remodels can be done on a much smaller budget. Moreover, it’s easier to gain more square footage on your existing property.

With the help of an experienced contractor, you can turn your basement into a functional, liveable, and enjoyable space. Consider a separate area for guests, extra bedrooms for a growing family, a suite for in-laws, a home theatre, a built-in bar, or another lounge for entertaining.

2. Kitchen renovation

They say the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where families and friends meet to eat, catch up, study, and spend quality time. Therefore, your kitchen must be an enjoyable place to be. It should also be functional, visually appealing, and meet your needs.

Is your kitchen outdated, dark, or poorly designed? Are your appliances unreliable and energy inefficient? Then it’s time for a remodel. A kitchen renovation brightens and modernizes the space, turning it into the perfect hub for your lifestyle. By carefully designing the layout, including ample storage, and choosing beautiful lighting, you can transform your kitchen into an attractive and functional space. Additionally, upgrading to energy-efficient appliances can help you save on your monthly utility bills.

3. Bathroom renovation

Bathrooms are either a zen place to take a relaxing bath or a room you want to evacuate immediately. A bathroom renovation can make all the difference! Reinventing your bathroom is possible with beautiful design, attractive lighting, and modern features. As bathrooms are often the smallest room in your house, it’s essential to use the space wisely. A good layout is key! Check out these bathroom layout tips and ideas.

Bathroom remodels can be complicated. There is plumbing to consider and potential water damage to deal with if your bathroom has fallen into disrepair. However, an experienced home renovation company with design experts can help you navigate your remodel. Ultimately, your bathroom can be the perfect place to prepare yourself for the day or take refuge after a particularly long one.

Home Renovations in Oshawa

A & A Home Repair Services provides a wide range of residential construction and renovation services. They specialize in custom homes and all major home improvements, such as basement, bathroom, and kitchen remodels. Additionally, they offer demolition and junk removal services. Restore before you replace your granite countertops

Granite countertops are a worthwhile and beautiful addition to any home. It’s highly durable and doesn’t easily scratch or burn, making it great for busy kitchens. While natural wear and tear will eventually dull the surface or leave stains and cracks, a simple restoration is all that’s needed.

Shiny Stone Care in Vancouver specializes in restoring, polishing, cleaning and sealing all types of natural stone. They share more about why you should restore your granite countertops before replacing them:

Dull surface: restore

A dull-looking granite countertop is likely the simple result of soap film buildup on the counter. Using dish soaps or soap-based cleaners, leave behind a film that takes away that shine. Hard water with a high mineral content will also leave a buildup on the counter. The restoration is simple: using a soap film remover to restore the shine.

Etching: restore

Granite countertops with etching (surface damage that looks like a dull mark) can also dull the surface. Things like grease stains or acids in foods like lemons, tomatoes, and lime, can cause minor surface damage that dulls the countertop. This can still be restored by using a polishing powder to clean the surface and restore its lustre.

Full surface restoration

Generally, a granite countertop should be resealed at least once a year, though this can vary. Lighter granite will need sealing more often, while darker and less porous granite needs it less often. Still, eventually, wear and tear will result in the countertop needing a full restoration. Little scratches and dings on the surface can also be fixed during the restoration. Professionals like Shiny Stone Care can do scratch and stain removal, crack and chip repair, polishing and honing. Having a complete surface restoration is worthwhile to restore your granite countertops to their original appeal.

Tile repair

Granite countertops paired with a tile backsplash are an appealing and stylish combination in any kitchen. Still, the backsplash also suffers from wear and tear and dullness over the years. So while restoring your granite countertops, also get your tiles restored. Re-grouting and resealing the tiles helps restore that new, fresh look and protects the tiles. By doing a two-in-one restoration, your whole kitchen will benefit from a brand-new look and feel.

Granite Repair and Restoration in Vancouver

Shiny Stone Care prides itself in being experts at all things natural store restoration. They can restore, polish, clean, and reseal all types of natural stone including your granite counter tops, and natural stone wall tile and flooring. Even engineered quartz, corian, and concrete is not too much for their team to handle. From shower floors to kitchen countertops, they offer services for it all.

When to test for mould and asbestos

Both asbestos and mould can lead to serious health effects when breathed in. Knowing the signs of mould or when to check for asbestos will keep your home and family safe. A professional team can then test your home so you can schedule a safe removal.

Eco-Abate Inc. in Calgary provides professional mould and asbestos testing services. They share when you should call their team to test your home:

Asbestos: renovating or demolishing a pre-1990s built home

Between the 1950s and 1990s, asbestos was a naturally occurring fibrous material used in building materials. Things like loose-blown insulation, stucco, linoleum flooring and more could all contain asbestos. When asbestos is disturbed, it releases into the air but can’t be seen. However, when breathed in, asbestos causes health issues and, in severe cases, even causes cancer. So, before renovating an older home, always have it checked for asbestos first. The same rule applies if you plan to demolish an older home, always test first.

Asbestos: buying or renting a new home

Before you settle into your new home, make sure you always have it inspected first. As part of any home inspection process, checking for asbestos is also necessary. A test will help detect the presence of asbestos or how much is in the home. It’s also a good rule to have an older home regularly checked in case any materials start to crumble over time and need testing.

Mould: musty odours

It could be mould if you’ve started noticing musty odours in your home that aren’t coming from a clogged drain. Air fresheners will only temporarily cover up the smell, but the musty odour will always return if it’s mould. The risk with mould is that the spores can lead to various health issues and serious problems. Difficulty breathing, sore throat, exhaustion, and allergy symptoms are all potential causes of mould. For those who already suffer from allergens, mould can make those symptoms much worse and more dangerous.

Mould: recent leak

Have you recently discovered a leak in your home or repaired some old water damage? If so, it’s worth having a professional come in and do some testing. Unfortunately, dark and damp environments are the ideal setup for mould to grow even after leak repairs. The main risk with mould caused by leaks is that it settles in behind the walls. There, mould can grow undetected until it leads to health complications. By testing early, a professional can catch any signs of mould, so you can schedule the removal and stay safe.

Asbestos Testing in Calgary and Mould Testing in Alberta

Eco Abate provides professional, safe and quick testing services for asbestos, mould, and radon. They have the education, training, and experience to check your home safely. If you suspect you have these materials in your home, have it tested as soon as possible.

4 advantages to working with a general contractor

You should always hire a general contractor when embarking on a home improvement or commercial renovation project. Professional general contractors bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge that ensures your project will be completed on time and within budget. There are so many advantages to hiring an experienced general contractor!

The Carpenter Edmonton Ltd. provides general contracting services for home remodels and commercial construction projects. They share four reasons why you should always invest in general contracting services.

On-schedule completion

Everyone has heard of (or experienced) a renovation project where deadlines are continuously pushed. As a result, the project drags on and on amidst increasing costs and frustration. This is a nightmare that all homeowners and businesses hope to avoid. While renovations and new construction projects can be lengthy ordeals, they shouldn’t take longer than they need to. You know your project will be completed on schedule when you hire a professional and experienced general contracting company like The Carpenter Edmonton. After all, they have the expertise and managerial skills to ensure that your renovation meets its deadlines.

Cost-effective from beginning to end

Extending deadlines inevitably leads to higher labour costs. However, runaway renovations aren’t the only way to send your project over budget. Ordering mistakes and paying too much for materials also increase the overall cost. If you’re inexperienced, you may order the wrong materials or choose a cheaper option that compromises durability. You may spend less initially, but it will cost you later on. Additionally, professional general contractors often have trusted relationships with suppliers and can purchase materials at a reduced rate. Without industry connections and knowledge, you can expect to pay more for the same products.

Energy-efficient construction

Energy efficiency is better for the environment, as well as your wallet. This is because investing in energy-efficient solutions during construction or renovation saves you money on energy bills afterward. For example, insulation, lighting, windows, and appliances can optimize energy efficiency. While some of these options may come with a higher initial cost, the energy savings over time make it more than worth it.

When you work with a general contracting company that understands energy-efficient construction, they can help you take advantage of energy-saving alternatives. Furthermore, you can sometimes get government rebates for installing renewable or energy-efficient systems. Learn more about making your home energy-efficient.

Higher quality results

Simply put, professional general contractors know what they’re doing. They implement strict quality controls and hire trusted, experienced, and quality subcontractors. The results look better and last longer. Your renovation or construction project will not only be completed on time- but also to perfection.

General Contractors in Edmonton

The Carpenter Edmonton Ltd. are experienced carpenters and general contractors. They specialize in commercial constructions, renovations, add-ons, and remodels. Some of their great services include building restoration, design, drywall, framing, flooring, and property maintenance. Edmonton homeowners and businesses trust them for quality workmanship and excellent customer service.
